For Developers

Paglo is built on an open platform that continually improves as its user community grows. That's how we make sure that IT professionals benefit from the wisdom of their peers (and are recognized for their contributions to the community). Here are some of the ways that you can improve Paglo and take advantage of the experience and efforts of others:

  • Publish Paglo share-its
Searches, dashboards, and alerts can be instantly saved as a share-it and published to the entire Paglo community. If you create that perfect server management, asset tracking, or you-name-it dashboard view, you can share its format (but never your data) with everyone! Paglo share-its are for everyone to use and any user can take advantage of a share-it.
  • Create Paglo Crawler plugins
Extend the Paglo Crawler and the type of IT data that can be indexed by writing Crawler plugins. The Crawler has a built-in Ruby interpreter that makes writing plugins easy. And if you are so inclined, you can write your own Crawler, since the communication protocol is open and documented.
  • Get involved in the Paglo Community
Join the discussions on the Paglo blog and forums and contribute your thoughts and ideas on hot topics within the IT community. Respond to contributions made by others and start dialogs with other IT experts around the world. Paglo gives you a place to interact and collaborate with your IT peers 24/7.

Publish Paglo share-its

Anyone — developers and non-developers alike — can create and publish powerful share-its to publish to the community. Take a simple searches in plain English like the term "Dell" to get standard text hit lists, then drill down for very specific results. Whether you're a PQL master or simply build comprehensive queries by filtering your results, any search can be saved and published to the community as a share-it for the benefits of others.

Searches aren't the only thing you can turn into a share-it. You can also save Dashboards and alerts as share-its. Share-its are rated based on their popularity among the Paglo community and users are rewarded for their contributions. Actively contribute share-its and watch your own status grow.

Create Paglo Crawler plugins

You and other developers in the Paglo community can extend the Paglo Crawler and the type of IT data that can be indexed by writing your own Crawler plugins.

Do you have processes that would benefit from data collection that Paglo doesn't do yet? You can write your own Crawler plugins to discover new types of IT data. The Paglo Crawler has a built-in Ruby interpreter that makes writing plugins easy. You can get the source code from our Subversion repository. If you want to find out more about plugins, see Creating Paglo plugins.

And if you are so inclined, you can even write your own Crawler, too. The communication protocol is open and documented. If you have your own widget that could be repurposed to work with Paglo, that's OK too. If you'd like to check this out, see Writing your own Paglo Crawler.

And you can publish your inventions to the Paglo community for the benefit of other Paglo users. Plugins from the community are available by getting them directly from developers. Plugin developers will be recognized for their contributions, and plugins will ultimately be ranked by their popularity.
